  • Instant coffee – if you don’t have any instant coffee on hand, you can make an extra-strong brew instead then pour it through a coffee filter.
  • Sugar – swap out for brown sugar, coconut sugar or another sweetener or sugar substitute of your choice.
  • Milk – make your coffee with your favourite milk or dairy-free milk. Almond milk, oat milk and soy milk would all be good.

Is it healthy?

This recipe is just as healthy as regular coffee. As long as you don’t go overboard on the sweetener, it will stay on the relatively healthy side with 193 calories per serving. For an even healthier option, use a dairy-free milk like almond milk and opt for a sweetener like Stevia or honey instead of white sugar.

Why is it called dalgona coffee?

The name dalgona comes from the drink’s South Korean origins. It’s named after dalgona candy, a honeycomb toffee that has a similar taste and appearance to the whipped drink.
