Lone Star State speed: Texas' fastest football recruits in the 2024, 2025, and 2026 classes (2024)

Jelani Watkins

• High school: Humble Atascocita (previously Klein Forest, pictured above)

• Rankings: No. 122 overall in the 2024 Top247 (four-star 94 rating), No. 23 WR nationally, No. 19 overall in Texas for 2024

The Skinny: Watkins is the undisputed fastest man in Texas after winning Class 6A gold medals in the 100- and 200-meter sprints with times of 10.19 and 20.60, respectively, in early May. Both numbers represent the fastest wind-legal time in each event this spring. Watkins, who ran an astronomical 20.39 200 in Spring 2023, takes his field-stretching speed to LSU, where he could also provide return-game options.

Will Henderson

• High school: Gilmer
• Speed data: 10.28 100, 21.52 200 (only one recorded rep)
• Rankings: High three-star 89 rating on 247Sports; No. 75 overall in Texas in 2025

The Skinny: Henderson, who just this past weekend decided to continue his football career at UTSA, won back-to-back Class 4A 100-meter state championships after placing second as a sophom*ore (10.48). Henderson won the 2023 4A crown with a 10.28, which he matched early this spring. Henderson also ripped a wind-aided 10.15 -- the fastest 100-meter time in Texas this spring -- at the Texas Relays at the end of March. Henderson ran for 2,700-plus yards and 35 touchdowns as a senior, when he helped Gilmer to the 4A state championship.

Ernest Campbell

• High school: Refugio
• Speed data: 10.26 100, 21.63 200
• Rankings: High three-star 89 rating on 247Sports; No. 74 overall in Texas for 2025

The Skinny: Campbell won four consecutive -- yes, four -- 2A 100-meter championships during his high school career, culminating with his 10.49-second effort a month ago. He also won regional championships as a senior in the 200 meters (21.63) and long jump (23 feet, 3/4 inch). Campbell's junior year saw his fastest times, including a wind-aided 10.22 100 and a wind-legal rep of 10.26. He also won the 2A 200-meter gold as a junior, when he ran a sizzling 20.92. Campbell heads to Texas A&M as a dynamic slot and return option after helping 2A power Refugio to a 49-6 record in the past four years.

Christopher Barnes

• High school: Galena Park North Shore
• Speed data: 10.29 100, 21.78 200
• Rankings: Three-star 84 rating on 247Sports; No. 272 overall in Texas for 2025

The Skinny: Washington State gets a bona fide burner in Barnes, who ran an impressive 10.72 100 as only a sophom*ore after posting a freshman 22.28 200 in Spring 2021. That 200-meter prowess led to a 21.78 as a junior, and Barnes continued his ascension with a nuclear 10.29 100 as a senior, when he also ran a 10.65. Barnes, who long jumped nearly 22 feet as only a sophom*ore, accounted for almost 2,000 receiving yards in the past two seasons, which each ended in 6A D-I state runner-up finishes for his North Shore squad.

Xavier Warren

• High school: Georgetown
• Speed data: 10.32 100, 21.26 200
• Rankings: High three-star 89 rating on 247Sports, No. 36 overall in Texas for 2026

The Skinny: Warren's 10.32 100 and 21.26 200 represent insane speed numbers for such a young prospect. According to MileSplit, he ran at least four 10.50 or faster 100-meter times this spring, twice getting into the 10.3 range. Warren uses that blazing top-end gear to provide a consistent big-play threat for Georgetown, which got 20 receptions for 447 yards and four touchdowns on 22.4 yards per grab out of Warren in his breakout sophom*ore campaign. Since March 29, Warren has reported offers from Houston, North Texas, UTEP, and most recently Nebraska.

Caden Durham

• High school: Duncanville
• Speed data: 10.28 100, 21.44 200
• Rankings: No. 124 overall in the 2024 Top247 (four-star 94 rating), No. 6 RB nationally, No. 20 overall in Texas

The Skinny: One of the top backs in college football's incoming freshman class, Durham played a major role in Duncanville's back-to-back 6A D-I state championships. He also recorded consecutive 6A 100-meter bronze medal performances with times of 10.53 and 10.46 each of the past two Mays. Durham, who joins Jelani Watkins at LSU, ran a 10.33 season-best 100-meter time this spring, and his junior year yielded a wind-aided 10.25 and wind-legal 10.28. He's also enjoyed consistent sub-22.00 200-meter speed, including times of 21.12 (wind-aided), 21.44, 21.54, and 21.61, among others. A 2,000-yard rusher as a senior, Durham finished his storied Duncanville career with 4,600-plus rushing yards and 78 TDs, plus more than 400 receiving yards and five TD catches.

Cordial Vann

• High school: Frisco Heritage
• Speed data: 10.43 100, 6.26 indoor 55, 6.73 indoor 60
• Rankings: High three-star 87 on 247Sports, No. 139 overall in Texas for 2025

The Skinny: Get ready for Vann's recruitment to take off thanks to what he accomplished on the track this spring. Vann, who recently reported his first offer from UTEP, hit wind-aided times of 10.23 and 10.33 this spring, along with a wind-legal 10.43. He won Nike Indoor Nationals titles in New York with a 6.26-second 55-meter time and a 6.73 60-meter PR. And oh by the way, Vann's 25-foot, 1.5-inch long jump a couple weeks ago during the Texas Track and Field Coaches Association's Meet of Champions at Texas State in San Marcos.

Corbin Glasco

• High school: Denton Guyer
• Speed data: 10.33 100
• Rankings: High three-star 87 rating on 247Sports, No. 49 overall in Texas for 2026

The Skinny: Glasco broke out this past fall as a sophom*ore for Guyer, racking up 600 scrimmage yards and eight touchdowns, while providing a dangerous return-game option as well. The 5-foot-7, 170-pounder can play the slot or from the backfield. While the acceleration and top-end gear are evident, Glasco's speed-changing nuance and run-after-catch ability as a quick screen-game option make him that much more dangerous. Glasco ran several sub-11.00-second 100-meter times this spring, including a 10.33 PR, followed by a 10.76, among others. UTSA offered in Sept. 2023. Glasco camped at Notre Dame this past weekend and reported a Sunday offer from Toledo. Expect the list to grow.

Quinton Brown

• High school: Argyle Liberty Christian
• Speed data: 10.35 100, 21.16 200, 6.84 indoor 60
• Rankings: Three-star 85 rating on 247Sports; No. 182 overall in Texas for 2025

The Skinny: Brown is a classic slot receiver speedster with obvious return-game value as well. He consistently lived well below the 11.00-second 100-meter threshold this spring, when he logged a red-hot 10.35 PR, as well as an equally impressive 21.16 200 into a headwind. Across the past two seasons, Brown caught more than 100 passes for 1,300-plus yards and 26 touchdowns. Brown, who committed in April to Boise State, notched three return TDs (two punt, one kickoff) as a junior.

Caleb Holmes

• High school: DeSoto
• Speed data: 10.35 100, 48.01 400
• Rankings: Three-star 83 rating on 247Sports, No. 208 overall in Texas for 2025

The Skinny: Holmes got only a couple of known 100-meter times on the ledger this spring, but made the most of them with an excellent 10.35 accompanied by a strong 10.81. But perhaps his specialty is the 400 meters, an event in which Holmes ran several sub-49.00-second reps, including a 48.01 PR. The top-end speed shows on tape as Holmes displays the ability to turn and run with high-level high school skill players facing Class 6A competition in the DFW Metroplex. Holmes, who had 39 tackles and one INT for DeSoto's 16-0 6A D-II state championship team in 2023, has reported several D-I and D-II offers, including FCS offers from Abilene Christian and North Alabama.

Caleb Smith

• High school: Allen
• Speed data: 10.35 100, 21.93 200, 6.90 indoor 60
• Rankings: High three-star 87 on 247Sports, No. 50 overall in Texas for 2026

The Skinny: Smith could potentially get recruiting attention at receiver or defensive back, but we like his ability to stretch the field and also operate from the backfield as an offensive athlete. Smith, who gained almost 600 scrimmage yards and score six touchdowns as a sophom*ore, twice reached the 10.3 100-meter neighborhood this spring, when he registered a 10.35 PR and cracked the coveted 22.00-second 200-meter threshold in one of his only attempts. Playing at the largest high school in Texas, Smith reports more than a dozen offers, including Mississippi State, Houston, Pittsburgh, Baylor, Arkansas, and Nebraska since mid-January.

Charles Ross

• High school: Galena Park North Shore
• Speed data: 10.36 100
• Rankings: No. 105 overall in the 2025 Top247 (four-star 93 rating), No. 12 LB nationally, No. 18 overall in Texas for 2025

The Skinny: Limited sophom*ore track reps yielded a glimpse of Ross' multi-sport speed as he ran a 10.94 in Spring 2023. Fast forward a year and Ross assembled an outstanding junior track campaign that featured double-digit 100-meter reps of 10.64 or faster. Ross ran a 10.36 PR en route to a 10.56 that earned him top-five status in the Class 6A state 100-meter final. Ross is an ultra-athletic modern linebacker who's shown consistently on tape that he's plenty comfortable playing in space. He recorded 71 tackles, six sacks, and two INTs for North Shore's 6A D-I state runner-up squad in December. Ross committed in early March to LSU.

Camden Capehart

• High school: Winnsboro
• Speed data: 10.37 100, 22.34 200
• Rankings: Three-star 85 rating on 247Sports, No. 66 overall in Texas for 2026

The Skinny: Capehart is another ultra-fast slot prospect on this list full of that archetype. Capehart produced several 100-meter times this spring well below the 11.00-second threshold, including a 10.37 that preceded a 10.44 that won him the Class 3A state championship. Capehart, who ran a 22.34 200 as only a freshman, also long jumped 21-6 this spring. Capehart's acceleration allows him to blow by slot defenders for field-stretching vertical shots, which helped fuel his whopping 26.2 yards per catch in a 2023 season that saw him catch 39 passes for 1,022 yards and 17 touchdowns. Capehart recently hit double-digit offers, including California, Arizona State, Mississippi State, North Texas, UTSA, and several more FBS programs.

Daniel Bray

• High school: Abilene Cooper
• Speed data: 10.38 100, 22.24 200
• Rankings: High three-star 87 rating on 247Sports, No. 125 overall in Texas for 2025

The Skinny: Bray reached the 10.4 100-meter range as a sophom*ore and followed that up with a 10.38 this spring, according to MileSplit. He's lived below the 11.00-second threshold for two full springs now, and in limited 200-meter reps provided some encouraging context as well. Bray's big-play juice helped his per-carry rate increase from 6.64 as a sophom*ore to 8.82 as a junior despite logging almost 50 more carries. Bray is primed for a huge senior year after eclipsing 2,000 yards across the past two seasons and scoring 34 offensive touchdowns. Bray's dozen-plus offers include California, Houston, Iowa, Pittsburgh, TCU, and Texas Tech.

Dakorien Moore

• High school: Duncanville
• Speed data: 10.40 100, 21.53 200
• Rankings: No. 5 overall in the 2025 Top247 (five-star 98 rating), No. 1 WR nationally

The Skinny: Moore represents one of the top track and field athletes in recruiting realm. He's eclipsed a staggering 24 feet in the long jump multiple times, while recording a wind-aided 21.38 200 and wind-legal 21.53 in Spring 2023. This year, Moore recorded a few sub-10.60 100-meter times, including a scorching 10.40 rep to notch a personal best. The top target for elite 2025 quarterback prospect Keelon Russell, Moore caught 71 passes for more than 1,500 yards and 18 touchdowns during Duncanville's second consecutive 6A D-I state championship run. A healthy season would push more beyond 3,000 career yards fairly easily, while another 1,500-yard performance would propel him to the lofty 4,000-yard plateau. Moore, who decommitted in May from LSU,officially visited Ohio State this past weekend. He's expected to take June OVs to LSU, Texas, and Oregon. The Longhorns lead the 247Sports Crystal Ball in his recruitment.

Tanook Hines

• High school: Spring Dekaney
• Speed data: 10.45 100, 20.71 200
• Rankings: Four-star 90 rating on 247Sports, No. 35 WR nationally, No. 42 overall in Texas for 2025

The Skinny: Hines ran a 10.89 100 as a sophom*ore before blowing the doors off that already-impressive time this spring, when he recorded 100-meter times of 10.45, 10.47, and 10.53, which placed third in 6A Region III. But Hines' 200-meter prowess is even more noteworthy; he finished second in all of 6A with a 20.71-second rep in the state finals. That marked the fastest of his half a dozen sub-21.50 200-meter times this spring. Hard to find football prospects who boast that consistently blazing 200-meter gear. Hines has gotten reps on both sides of the ball and could realistically play either way in college. Across the past two seasons, he caught 85 passes for more than 1,300 yards and 12 TDs. Notre Dame leads the 247Sports Crystal Ball in Hines' recruitment.

Jhase McMillan

• High school: Katy Tompkins
• Speed data: 10.45 100, 20.84
• Rankings: High three-star 87 rating on 247Sports, No. 119 overall in Texas for 2024

The Skinny: McMillan was one of the FCS steals of the 2024 cycle. A dynamic on-field athlete, McMillan's track and field juice consistently translates to the gridiron, where he picked off nine passes across the past two seasons playing 6A ball in Houston metro. McMillan, who eclipsed 23 feet in the long jump several times this spring, set personal bests in the 100 and 200 meters, winning 6A bronze in the latter thanks to his 20.84 time at state. He also ran wind-aided times of 20.69 and 20.74. In the 100-meter event, McMillan ran got only a couple of reps, but ripped a 10.45 to further bolster his speed resume. FCS power Montana State signed McMillan in December.

Tyler Brown

• High school: Aubrey
• Speed data: 20.72 200, 48.71 400
• Rankings: Three-star 86 rating on 247Sports, No. 166 overall in Texas for 2025

The Skinny: Brown is another slot demon who displays vertical field-stretching ability and particularly dangerous run-after-catch athleticism when targeted in the short-to-intermediate passing game. Naturally, Brown also could give a college program an early option in the return game, where his acceleration and top-end gear derived from electric 20.72-second 200-meter speed -- good for the 4A state championship a month ago. Brown has competed in several track and field events since his freshman year, when he recorded a personal best of 48.71 in the 400. Brown not only stands out from an acceleration standpoint, but decelerates and "re-celerates," for lack of a better term, smoothly and without noticeably punitive gear-down. A three-phase playmaker and district MVP for Aubrey, Brown's reported North Texas, Texas State, UTEP, UTSA, and SFA offers. That list should grow.

Jayden Warren

• High school: Iowa Colony
• Speed data: 10.59 100, 21.07 200
• Rankings: High three-star 89 rating on 247Sports, No. 34 overall in Texas for 2026

The Skinny: A three-sport standout at TXHSFB newcomer Iowa Colony -- poised to become a must-visit destination for college coaches nationwide during evaluation periods -- Warren provided big-play punch in a handful of games this past fall, scoring four times on his seven receptions in a debut sophom*ore campaign. But Warren's basketball ability, which includes finishing above the rim with two hands off the carom, and track prowess provide excellent context as to what he should become as a dominant outside receiver in the coming seasons. Warren earned a pair of 4A bronze medals a month ago with a 10.59 100 and a 21.07 200, while running the second leg of Iowa Colony's 4A silver medal-winning 4x100 relay. Listed at 6-foot-2, Warren's three-sport profile and obvious athleticism make for a high-upside prospect. Texas Tech, Pittsburgh, Baylor, and Wisconsin join a handful of additional early FBS offers for Warren.

Cole Dauper, 2025 K, McKinney: Not often you find a kicker who runs 10.36 in the 100, but that's what McKinney boasts in Dauper, who made 3 of 5 field-goal attempts and 35 of 39 PATs in 2023.

Lincoln Dunn, 2024 WR, Melissa (Army commit): Dunn ran a 10.36 among double-digit sub-11.00 100-meter times as a senior. He also cracked 22.00 in the 200 twice with a pair of 21.9 reps.

Zayden Sharp, 2025 WR, Austin Anderson: Sharp ran a pair of 10.40 100-meter reps this spring, while also long jumping 23 feet. The speedy slot has reported UNLV and Air Force offers.

Daylon Singleton, 2025 four-star WR, DeSoto (SMU commit): A 200-meter merchant, Singleton ran a district championship-winning 21.13 before placing third at regionals with a 21.26. The juice is obvious on the field; Singleton finished 2023 with 56 catches for 1,211 yards and 17 TDs on 21.6 yards per reception.

Jaylon Hawkins, 2025 CB, Argyle Liberty Christian: Hawkins, who's reported double-digit G5 and FCS offers, ripped an outstanding 47.51-second 400-meter time this spring, along with a 200-meter rep of 21.71.

Ashton Bethel-Roman, 2024 Top247 four-star WR (No. 134 overall), Fort Bend Ridge Point (Texas A&M signee): In the past two springs, Bethel-Roman logged nearly 20 known sub-22.00-second 200-meter times, including a personal record in April of 21.17. Also a relay staple, Bethel-Roman finished his high school career with a 23-3 long jump PR he set as a junior.

Kade Phillips, 2025 Top247 four-star CB (No. 241 overall), Fort Bend Hightower: Phillips' specialty is the long jump, so adding a 21.50 200 and a 49.74 400 reinforces just how athletic he is. As for that long jump, Phillips eclipsed 24 feet several times this spring, when he set a PR of 24-7.5, among the best high school long jumps in the country. Phillips officially visited Baylor in April and plans upcoming OVs to Texas A&M, LSU, and Texas.
