Summer transfers 2023: All the Chelsea ins, outs and new contracts so far (2024)

It has been a busy summer transfer window for Chelsea this year. Here’s a summary of everything you need to know about our activity to date, with some exciting new signings, fond farewells and contract extensions to catch up on…

Chelsea new signings summer 2023

Axel Disasi

The French international defender joined Chelsea from Monaco on a six-year contract, having shown his quality over several years in his homeland, making 130 appearances in the top-flight. He started his Blues career with a debut goal against Liverpool.

Moises Caicedo

A 21-year-old midfielder with plenty of Premier League experience from his time at Brighton, Caicedo signed an eight-year contract with Chelsea in August. The Ecuadorian made 43 appearances for the Seagulls last term, winning their Player of the Season award.

Nicolas Jackson

The Senegal international signed an eight-year contract with Chelsea following a breakout 2022/23 campaign in La Liga with Villarreal, in which he struck 12 goals.

Romeo Lavia

After impressing for Southampton in the Premier League last season, 19-year-old Belgian midfielder Lavia complete a move to Chelsea in August, signing a seven-year contract.

Alex Matos

Capable of playing in midfield and attack, Matosfeatured for Norwich’s Under-18s and Under-21s last season. He scored three goals in the Premier League 2 for the latter, before his summer switch.

Diego Moreira

Portugal Under-21 international Moreira completed a move to Chelsea from Benfica, where he played an important role in the club’s 2022 UEFA Youth League triumph, the 18-year-old grabbing two assists in the final.

Christopher Nkunku

The skilful attacker joined the club from RB Leipzig for the 2023/24 season, with the 25-year-old, who has been capped 10 times by France, agreeing asix-yearcontract.

Kendry Paez

Chelsea agreed a deal to sign teenage midfielder Paez from Independiente del Valle. The Ecuadorian, who will join after his 18th birthday, has already built a reputation in South America as one of the brightest and most creative young talents around.

Dujuan Richards

Jamaica international Dujuan ‘Whisper’ Richards will join the club next season following his 18th birthday, and celebrated his upcoming move by scoring his first senior goal for Jamaica in a Gold Cup win over Trinidad and Tobago days after it was announced.

Ishe Samuels-Smith

Teenage defender Samuels-Smith, who was a regular for Everton's Under-21s last season, joined Chelsea after representing England at this summer's European Under-17 Championship.

Robert Sanchez

The Spanish international goalkeeper arrived at Stamford Bridge from Brighton in August, in time to add to his 87 previous Premier League appearances by making his debut in our opening match against Liverpool.

Lesley Ugochukwu

The 19-year-old French midfielder joined from Rennes after helping his side finish fourth in Ligue 1 and reach the Europa League knockout stages last season.

Chelsea departures summer 2023

Ethan Ampadu

The versatile Welsh international left Chelsea after six years with the club to join relegated Leeds United in the Championship.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Aubameyang spent one year at Stamford Bridge after arriving from Barcelona last summer, departing for Marseille after scoring three goals in 21 appearances.

Cesar Azpilicueta

Blues captain Azpilicueta brought his 11 years with Chelsea to an end, after an incredible 508 appearances and nine trophies, as the Spanish defender returned to his homeland with Atletico Madrid.

Baba Rahman

The Ghanaian international left Chelsea in a permanent move to Greek side PAOK, where he had previously spent time on loan in 2021.

Tiemoue Bakayoko

The French midfielder left Chelsea at the conclusion of his contract, having arrived from Monaco in 2017, making 43 appearances and winning the FA Cup that season.

Ben Elliott

Young midfielder Elliott had been with Chelsea since eight years old and overcame serious injury to feature 22 times for our Under-21s last season, before departing for Reading.

Kai Havertz

The German international departed Chelsea after three seasons at Stamford Bridge and completed a move across London to Arsenal. He will forever have a place in Blues history having scored the winning goals in the 2021 Champions League final and the 2021 FIFA Club World Cup final.

N’Golo Kante

Chelsea said goodbye to club legend Kante, with the midfielder joining Saudi Professional League side Al-Ittihadat the expiration of his contract. The 32-year-old played a decisive role throughout his seven seasons at Stamford Bridge and lifted the Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League, Europa League, UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup.

Kalidou Koulibaly

Koulibaly left Chelsea after completing a permanent transfer to Saudi Professional League side Al-Hilal. The centre-back arrived from Napoli last summer and made 32 appearances for the Blues during his sole campaign at Stamford Bridge.

Mateo Kovacic

After five years as a Chelsea player, Kovacic left the club and completed a permanent transfer to Manchester City. Kovacic made 221 appearances during his time at Stamford Bridge and helped Chelsea win the Champions League, Europa League, UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek

After 19 years as a Chelsea player, Loftus-Cheek left the club and completed a permanent transfer to AC Milan. He joined Chelsea as an Under-8 and made 155 senior appearances, departing with Premier League, Europa League and UEFA Super Cup winner's medals.

Edouard Mendy

Mendy left Chelsea after three seasons and completed a permanent transfer to Saudi Professional League side Al-Ahli. The 31-year-old will be best remembered at Stamford Bridge for the key role he played on our run to Champions League glory in 2021.

Mason Mount

Mount's 18-year association with Chelsea came to an end when he left for Manchester United. Having won silverware in our Academy, he broke into the senior team in 2019/20 and set up the decisive goal in our 2021 Champions League final victory over Manchester City.

Christian Pulisic

The 24-year-old left Chelsea after four years to join AC Milan, having signed from Borussia Dortmund in 2019. He scored goals for the Blues in the UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup final and broke the record for most Champions League goals by an American, including two as we won the competition in 2021.

Dujon Sterling

Sterling completed a permanent move to Rangers. The defender had been at Chelsea since the age of eight and was handed his senior debut as a substitute in a League Cup tie against Nottingham Forest in September 2017.

Academy

We also said goodbye to the following players from the Chelsea Academy at the end of their contracts: Derrick Abu, Prince Adegoke, Nathan Baxter, Juan Castillo, Bryan Fiabema, Joe Haigh, Henry Lawrence, Sam McClelland, Tudor Mendel-Idowu, Malik Mothersille, Silko Thomas, Ethan Wady and Jayden Wareham.

Goalkeeper Sami Tlemcani has also departed after he and the club mutually agreed tocancel his contract.

Chelsea loan ends summer 2023

Joao Felix

The Portuguese forward returns to Atletico Madrid after joining Chelsea on loan for the second half of 2022/23, scoring four goals in 20 appearances for the Blues.

Denis Zakaria

The midfielder’s season-long loan from Juventus came to an end after 10 matches for the Blues, the highlight being his goal at Stamford Bridge on his debut against Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League.

Chelsea new contracts summer 2023

Ato Ampah

The young Academy winger signed a new contract with Chelsea after a breakthrough campaign which saw him become a regular for our Under-18s and make his UEFA Youth League debut.

Levi Colwill

The young defender signed a six-year contract, with an option for a further year, after an impressive loan spell in the Premier League with Brighton and helping England win the European Under-21 Championship in the summer. Colwill made his senior Chelsea debut in our opening game of 2023/24, against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.

Michael Golding

The 17-year-old midfielder, who has captained England Under-17s, signed his first professional contract with Chelsea following an impressive season with our Under-18s.

Chelsea loans summer 2023

Kepa Arrizabalga

Spanish goalkeeper Kepa made a season-long loan switch to La Liga side Real Madrid. He has made 163 Chelsea appearances, helping us win the Champions League, Club World Cup, Europa League and UEFA Super Cup.

Cesar Casadei

The Italian midfielder will spend this season in the Championship after joining relegated Leicester City on loan. He received the Golden Boot and Goldan Ball awards after scoring seven goals as Italy reached the final of this year's Under-20 World Cup.

David Fofana

Fofana completed a season-long loan move to the Bundesliga with Union Berlin, who will compete in the Champions League for the first time in 2023/24. He joined Chelsea from Molde in January and has made four senior appearances.

Angelo Gabriel

The 18-year-old Brazilian forward joined Chelsea from Santos this summer and, after joining the senior squad for the pre-season tour of the USA, will spend the 2023/24 campaign on loan in France with Strasbourg.

Omari Hutchinson

The young Jamaica international will spend this season in the Championship on loan at newly promoted Ipswich Town. He joined Chelsea from Arsenal a year ago and made his senior debut in the Premier League at Manchester City in January.

Dion Rankine

Versatile Academy graduate Dion Rankine has completed a season-long loan move to League One side Exeter City. It will be the 20-year-old's first taste of senior football after featuring regularly for our Under-21s.

Teddy Sharman-Lowe

Goalkeeper Sharman-Lowe will continue his development on loan at Bromley in the National League, having previously gained first-team experience at Burton Albion and during a loan spell with Havant and Waterlooville in the second half of last season.

Gaga Slonina

After returning from the senior team's summer tour of his homeland the USA, goalkeeper Slonina embarked on a season-long loan with Eupen in the Belgian top flight.

Charlie Webster

Young midfielder Webster joined Dutch top-flight side SC Heerenveen on loan for the 2023/24 season, in his first spell away from Chelsea.

Hakim Ziyech

Ziyech completed a season-long loan to Galatasaray, with an obligation to make that move permanent. The 30-year-old joined the Blues from Ajax in 2020 and helped us win the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup before moving to Turkey.
